Music and Hosting for Corporate Parties and Galas

A company holiday party, awards evening and corporate gala can call for different kinds of entertainment. Start with the event’s purpose and schedule, then choose music and hosting that support it.

Map out the event before choosing songs

List guest arrival, dinner, presentations, awards and any open dancing. Decide when music should be background, when it should stop and whether a short musical cue is needed for a speaker or award recipient.

Share the running order with your DJ and confirm who can authorize last-minute changes. If a speaker’s name or title is unfamiliar, provide pronunciation notes.

Choose a musical direction that fits your workplace

Ask your organizer about preferred genres, clean versions and any topics to avoid. A mixed group may appreciate a mix of familiar songs, but do not assume every employee wants the same playlist or volume level.

For a holiday party, decide whether seasonal songs should be a small part of the background music or a stronger theme. Discuss whether you want guests dancing after dinner or mainly socializing throughout the evening.

Check sound and hosting requirements

Tell your entertainment provider about microphones, speaker presentations, room size and any separate reception or outdoor space. Confirm what the venue supplies and what the DJ is responsible for bringing. A music setup should not be assumed to cover every presentation requirement.

Ask who will make announcements and who will be the event-day contact. Coordinate microphone handoffs and music cues before the program starts.

Consider another way for guests to join in

A photo booth can give guests a shared activity between conversations and dancing. Game night options may suit a more participatory event. Ask about music bingo, trivia, Survey Says or karaoke based on the format and time available.
